Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

All of our courses offer 12 months of access. All videos, quizzes, and lab instructions are available throughout the course access period.

At present, we offer chemistry courses, with different versions tailored for US High School and UK GCSE / IGCSE courses. A physics course is currently under development

No textbook is required — everything you need is included in the course. Most labs use common household materials, like vinegar, baking soda, or other kitchen items. A few labs use inexpensive speciality items that can be purchased at online retailers (e.g. universal indicator paper, chromatography paper).

UK IGCSE courses include guidance for optional additional questions using an additional workbook to assist with preparation for the public IGCSE exams.

Yes. Each lab includes a video demonstration, safety guidance, and a sample lab report. Supervisors or parents should review the safety instructions and oversee students while performing experiments. All recommended household materials are safe when used as instructed.

Axiom Science courses work on any device with a web browser capable of showing videos — laptop, tablet, or smartphone. Most people find it easier to watch lessons on a larger screen, so a laptop or larger tablet is usually best.

If you need a larger display — for example, to show videos in a classroom — you can easily connect your device to a TV or projector.

Our courses are designed for high school (or IGCSE) level students, so a good foundation in basic comprehension and note‑taking will help you get the most out of them. You’ll also be using some math along the way — mainly things like ratios, percentages, fractions, and the usual operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). Don’t worry — you don’t need advanced math, you just need to be comfortable with the basics.

To help you feel confident, we’ve created a short math readiness quiz. Go ahead and take the quiz whenever you like, and we’ll let you know immediately whether you’re ready to start Axiom Science courses.

Our GCSE and IGCSE Chemistry courses are designed for the Edexcel International GCSE (IGCSE) Chemistry syllabus (2017 onward). This has significant overlap with the Edexcel GCSE, as well as syllabuses from other boards. However, students and supervisors are advised to check the details of other syllabuses, as some aspects may not be covered.

You’ll only need a few basics: a notebook or binder with paper, pens and pencils, a ruler for neat diagrams, and a calculator. It’s a good idea to have the lab materials for the first few weeks ready. If you’re completing a UK IGCSE course, we also recommend getting the suggested workbook by the end of the first module.

Yes! We’ve created a free sample course, including a selection of video lectures, worked examples, and quizzes. Go ahead and check it out for yourself!

Parents and Supervisors

A supervisor is a parent or school teacher who oversees the progress of students during the course. Supervisors don’t need to do any of the teaching – we take care of that, and all the quizzes are graded automatically.

If your student wishes to complete the labs, you or another responsible adult are asked to supervise them for safety reasons. You’ll also need to grade their lab reports, but we give complete guidelines for this, making it a quick and easy task. In fact, we give complete sample lab reports, helping your students to understand what is required, and helping you to check whether they’ve completed them correctly.

Sample lab reports

Yes, absolutely! Axiom Science courses have been designed specifically with you in mind. Yes, you can! Axiom Science is great for homeschool co-ops. You can watch videos together as a group, let students work together on labs, and assign quizzes or lab reports as homework whenever it works best for your schedule. Axiom Science is designed to be flexible enough for group use, while providing a clear structure to aid students in their learning.

At the completion of a full Axiom Science course, students receive a certificate showing an overall percentage score with grading guidelines. This can be used by teachers and home educating parents in different ways depending on local regulations.

US home educators. In most US states, home educating parents are legally authorized to issue their own high school diploma if they are educating their children in accordance with state regulations. Parents are responsible for keeping all academic records, including grades, transcripts, and other documentation. An Axiom Science certificate can serve as part of the evidence that a student has earned a high school diploma, and their grade can be included on the student’s high school transcript as a 1 credit course. (Please note that regulations vary by state, so families should check local requirements.)

US schools. The final score in an Axiom Science course can be used by schools in awarding grades to their students when issuing a high school diploma. An Axiom Science certificate can serve as part of the evidence that a student has earned a high school diploma, and their grade can be included on the student’s high school transcript as a 1 credit course.

Outside the US. In other countries, Axiom Science certificates may be included in a student’s personal learning record or portfolio, and formal credit may be granted if permitted by the relevant regulations. Families and schools should follow the documentation and guidelines specific to their own country or educational authority. Our GCSE and IGCSE courses do not themselves award formal qualifications; instead, they provide structured preparation for the Edexcel IGCSE exam and other GCSE exams offered by the recognized exam board.

Yes, of course. Axiom Science allows you to serve far more students than would otherwise be possible. We provide quality video resources to teach the course material, with comprehensive video lectures, worked examples, quizzes, and end-of-module tests.
